Our fall 2001 show, presented in November, was Light Up The Sky, a witty three-act comedy by Moss Hart. The director was Leo Nickole, recently retired professor of theatre at Emerson College in Boston, and one of the founders of the Theatre Company of Saugus.
Light Up the Sky is about an ensemble of egotistical theatre folk who are alternately supporting or destroying the pre-Broadway tryout of a new experimental play. The setting is a suite at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Boston.
The performance dates were November 9, 10, 11, 23, 24, and we played to almost full and enthusiastic houses at each one. Performances were held in the Little Theatre at St. John's Episcopal Church. Seating was cabaret style, with refreshments served during the two intermissions.
The cast included several current Theatre Company members: Jean Amorosi as Mrs. Gallegher, the Shriner's wife; Rosemary DeGregorio as Stella Livingston, the leading lady's mother; John Greene as Carleton Fitzgerald, the emotional director; Barbara Hunt as Frances Black, the wife of the producer and ice-skating star; Laura Shrader-Johnson as Irene Livingston, the dramatic leading lady; and Jaime Stevens as the voice of the Parrot.
Returning company members included: Paul D'Onofrio as Sidney Black, the successful producer; and Chris Kingston as Peter Sloan, the first-time playwright.
The Theatre Company welcomed some new members for this show: Keith Briggs as Tyler Rayburn, the out-of-place husband; Alice Lu as Miss Lowell, the literary assistant; and Bob Roland as Owen Turner, the experienced playwright.
The stage manager was Melissa Ehlers, assisted by Rhona D'Onofrio and Larry Segel. The set was assembled by Charlie Pastorello and Jim Scheri. The producer was Fran Baron. Peter Leslie ran the lights and sound effects. Martha Lecaroz handled the ticket sales.
